Watch out! The women are coming!
The Alliance International Hockey Club (Alliance HC) has entered two O60 women’s teams for the Tournament Trophy at the WGMA European Championships in Glasgow.
We are very excited to participate in this event. Our players come from all over the world and at this tournament Alliance HC will be represented by players from Australia, New Zealand, Holland, England, Canada, South Africa, Italy, and the U.S.A. While we have never played together as a team some of us played together at the European Championships in Southgate, England, 2015; the IMHA tournament in Canberra, Australia last March; and the first ever Americas Masters tournament held in Vancouver, Canada, last September. Some of us also played in the Super Veterans tournament in Tilburg, the Netherlands, in June of 2016 and will be playing there again in June of this year.
Of course, despite language and cultural differences we all unite around our love of hockey. Having the opportunity to play high level hockey at our age is indeed a privilege. We very much appreciate the efforts being made to include women in this year’s tournament and while we will still be far out-numbered by the men’s teams, at least Alliance HC is doing all that it can to encourage growth by providing one third of the women’s teams for Glasgow!
See you on the field – Ishbel Dickens, Alliance Executive Committee Member.
